Abstract
1363134 Soaking pit cover USS ENGINEERS & CONSULTANTS INC 30 July 1971 [30 July 1970] 36037/71 Heading E2M The cover of a soaking pit/heating chamber is moved into closed position by winding the first of two cable sections on to a reversible drum while paying out the other cable section. Both cable sections are attached at one end to the drum and at the other to the cover and the first cable section is guided over a sheave mounted between the drum and the opening of the soaking pit. The cover is moved along tracks from a position adjacent the opening to a position covering the opening. In the figure drum 42 when driven by motor 44 in a counterclockwise direction causes cable 48 to wind on to the drum, guided by sheave 38, and cable 50 to be payed out, thus moving cover 8 along tracks 26 to the closed position. When the drum is driven in the opposite direction, cable 50 winds on to the drum, guided by sheave 40, and cable 48 is payed out, to move the cover 8 back along the tracks 26.
