Abstract
1362571 Pipe couplings SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 21 Sept 1971 [23 Sept 1970] 43948/71 Heading F2G On pressing rim 12 upwardly into sealing contact with a deformable sealing ring 52 in a gas container filling head the ring 52 is bulged outwardly on all sides to close narrow annular channel 100, so that the flow of fluid, via points 94 and 102, in an hydraulic or pneumatic control circuit for valve member 64, is blocked. The control circuit feeds compressed air to the space 78 above piston 76, in response to the blockage and this causes the valve member 64 to move downwardly away from valve seat 58 and against the action of return spring 86 and allow gas to pass into the container 10. The control circuit responds to lack of tightness at any part of the periphery of scaling member 52, by releasing the air from space 78, so that the valve member 64 is immediately closed. When the piston 76 is depressed, pin 104 opens the container valve 16. The filling head is resiliently mounted by resilient rings 34 and a centring sleeve has a plastics lining 44.
