Abstract
1362423 Magnetic couplings CEFILAC 9 Aug 1971 [11 Aug 1970] 37350/71 Heading H2A In a magnetic coupling comprising two coaxial rotationally independent rotors R1, R2 respectively attached to a driving shaft 1 and to a driven load DR, e.g. a heat engine cooling fan, one of the rotors, e.g. R2 constitutes a multipole inductor 16 whilst the other, R1' constituting an induced member, is provided opposite the inductor with an individual continuous ferromagnetic ring 9 of high coercive field strength whose face area is substantially equal to that of the inductor, and a good electrically conductive member, e.g. an Al or Cu washer 10 is contiguous the ring 9. The inductor 16 may be an electromagnet or an orientated ferrite permanent magnet having, e.g. eight poles, the ring 9 may be of a chrome-Fe alloy of Co, of W, or of other alnico alloys having a large hysteresis cycle, and the rotor 2 comprises a cast Al disc 2 having cooling vanes 7. Up to a certain load torque the coupling transmits synchronously, beyond which torque resultant slip effects an eddy current transmission.
