Abstract
1362196 Switch cases THOMAS ASHWORTH & CO Ltd 20 Aug 1971 [27 July 1970] 36247/70 Heading H1N An alarm contact box comprises a housing, an electrical switch mounted within the housing, a frangible plate arranged to actuate the switch when the plate is broken, and a flexible watertight sealing cover held in substantially liquidtight engagement with the base of the switch so that working parts thereof are protected from any moisture in the housing. As shown a switch 10 mounted in a housing 12 has an actuator plunger 34 maintained depressed by a glass plate 56 in the front cover 18 such that breakage of the glass allows the switch to operate. The switch is mounted by screws 36 on a support plate 16, itself held against three front edges of the housing body 14 by screws 24. The cover 18 is hinged at 30 and secured by a screw 32. Flexible waterproof covers 40 and 42 of rubber or nylon, for example, protect the switch 10 from moisture in the housing 12. The cover 40 has a collar 46 which is a tight fit around the base 48 of the switch and a flange 50 is nipped between base 48 and plate 16. The front cover 42 has its periphery gripped between base 48 and plate 16. Parts of the rear cover 40 are weakened to allow cables to be forced through in a watertight manner.
