Abstract

1361395 Loading and unloading vehicles H STEINER Ltd 10 Sept 1971 [26 Sept 1970] 45930/70 Heading B8E [Also in Division B7] A road vehicle includes a load carrying platform 7 coupled to the tractor part 5 of the vehicle to permit movement of the rear of the platform in a vertical plane, and a wheel assembly 8 on the platform and movable between a rearward transport position in which the platform adapts its normal position and a forward loading position in which the rear end of the platform is close to or in contact with the ground. The wheel assembly 8 comprises a pair of road wheels 10 at each end of a single axle 9 which is connected to the platform 7 by a pair of vertical hydraulic rams 11 pivoted to the platform and each braced by an inclined hydraulic ram 12 pivotally connected to the platform and respective rams 11. For loading or unloading, the rams 11 and 12 are retracted to pivot the wheels forward whereby the rear end of the platform 7 is lowered, and a ramp 13 telescopically housed in the platform may be extended to bridge any gap between the platform and ground. In another embodiment of Fig. 3 (not shown) the rear wheels are mounted on a carriage movable along the platform to cause vertical movement of the rear end thereof, and a winch arrangement on the platform facilitates the loading and unloading operations.
