Abstract
1361256 Gas turbine blades ROLLS-ROYCE (1971) Ltd 25 Aug 1972 [25 Aug 1971] 39778/71 Heading FIT A hollow gas turbine blade contains a doublewalled insert 14 which is spaced from the blade walls 17, 18 but inclined fins 15 defining inflow and outflow regions for coolant fluid. The latter, e.g. liquid, air or other gas, may be supplied at the blade root end 13 and flows longitudinally part pimples 16. Some coolant discharges through leading edge film cooling holes 24 whilst the remainder enters the open forward end 22 of insert 14 and flows chord-wise over spacers 21 to leave the insert through holes or slots 23 and enter the outflow region 27 rearward of fins 15. Pedestals 19 are provided in region 27. Coolant leaves the latter through trailing edge holes 25, when provided, or at the blade tip 12. Bleed holes may be provided in the root end of fins 15 to allow a small amount of coolant to flow directly to region 27 without passing through insert 14. Inclined fins may be provided instead of or in addition to pimples 16. The forward edge of insert 14 may be closed and provided with holes analogous to holes 23. The blade may be for a rotor or stator.
