Abstract
1361178 Escape shoots CAR MAT CO Ltd 13 July 1971 [21 April 1970] 19085/70 Heading B7J An emergency escape apparatus comprises a flexible shoot 15 slidably attached to spaced support cables 9 inclined to the horizontal, e.g. at an angle of 45 degrees which shoot is movable from a contracted storage position, Fig. 3, to an extended position for use, Fig. 1. The shoot is of substantially U-shaped cross-section of elongate form in the extended position and composed of fire resistant material having rings or shackles 16 connected by means of webbing along the side parts of the shoot for attachment to the cables 9 each having one end connected within an escape aperture 1 in a building and having inner and outer closure panels 3, 4, and the other end connected to a respective ground anchorage 11, such as a concrete block. The uppermost ring 16 on each side of the shoot 15 is anchored to a fixed bar 5 in the aperture and the lower part of the shoot or the rings carrying the lower part may be weighted so that on opening the inner and outer panels 3, 4, of the aperture the shoot 15 unfolds under its own weight along the cables 9 to the ground and is ready for use. Cushion pads (21), (22), Fig. 5 (not shown), may be attached to the shoot 15 to prevent injury to the user and the lower end of the shoot may be doubled back on itself to form a pocket to prevent users of the apparatus from being ejected rapidly out of the end of the shoot.
