1360514 Diffusion transfer process and materials therefor EASTMAN KODAK CO 4 Nov 1971 [9 Nov 1970] 51378/71 Heading G2C A photographic dye image receiving element comprises a support successively coated with a colour developing agent scavenger layer consisting of a silver halide emulsion and a non- diffusible coupler, a light reflecting layer and a dye image receiving layer. Such elements form part of a film unit conventionally comprising, a photo-sensitive element containing a silver halide emulsion and a non-diffusible coupler and a rupturable container of alkaline processing liquid for insertion between the photo-sensitive and the receiving elements after exposure. The scavenger layer prevents stains appearing in the receiving layer after stripping from the photo-sensitive element by oxidation of unused colour developer with the exposed and fogged silver halide followed by subsequent reaction of the oxidized developer with the coupler to give a non-diffusible product, which product is masked by the light reflecting layer. The silver halide emulsion in the scavenger layer may be either panchromatic, unsensitized or prefogged so as to be spontaneously developable. The scavenger is also arranged to be developed after the image recording layer. The non-diffusible couplers in the photo-sensitive element may be either of the DYE-LINK- (COUP-BALL)n or the BALL-LINK -(COUP-SOL)n type. An interlayer may be provided in the photo-sensitive element which scavenges oxidized developing agent to give a non-diffusible product by reaction with a coupler distributed in a hydrophilic polymer layer. The developing agent may either be present in the rupturable container or in one of the photosensitive layers as a salt. The light reflecting layer preferably contains titanium dioxide as opacifier. The photo-sensitive element may contain several silver halide emulsion layers so as to give multi-colour images. The silver halide emulsion layers may be direct-positive.
