Abstract

1360497 Control of AC motors J M NOGUEKA 21 July 1972 [28 July 1971 20 Oct 1971 3 Dec 1971 30 Dec 1971] 35570/71 48857/71 56352/71 and 60841/71 Heading H2J [Also in Divisions D1 and F2] A synchronous or induction motor 30 is braked to a standstill by reversing the current and then switching off current using a switch having an operating arm 31. In normal forward rotation a lever 32, which extends from a roller clutch 33 mounted on the motor shaft 36, bears against stop 37A and arm 31 is in position 31A to rotate motor 30 in the forward direction. When braking is required, the arm 31 is rotated to bear against the lever 32 in position 31B. A reverse current is thereby fed to the motor. At the end of the braking and as the motor commences reverse rotation, the lever 32 is moved away from stop 37A and turns the arm 31 to an "off" position 31C to stop the motor, after which the lever 32 is returned to the stop 37A by a spring 38.
