Abstract
1358616 Master cylinder reservoir; pipe coupling SOC ANON DBA 1 Dec 1972 [24 Dec 1971] 55620/72 Addition to 1096874 Headings F2E F2F and F2G A transparent or translucent vessel 10 of synthetic plastics material has a bottom 12 formed with a boss 14 and is connectible to a master cylinder by a metal spigot 20 which comprises a central shoulder 22 and a cylindrical collar 26; the spigot 20 is force fitted into a recess 18 in the boss 14 until the shoulder 22 abuts on the bottom of the recess 18 and the collar 26 projects through a bore 16 in the boss 14 and through a central orifice in a rigid dome 19 which is also force-fitted to the boss 14, the free end 30 of the collar 26 being bent radially so that the spigot 20 is flanged on to the reservoir 10. The dome 19 holds the wall of the boss 14 on to a large area of the spigot 20 by exerting radial and axial compression on the wall, the dome 19 having a cylindrical surface 32 which runs substantially parallel to the axis of bore 16 and which co-operates with the side wall 34 of shoulder 22 to radially compress the wall of the boss 14. Shoulder 22 and recess 18 are hexagonal in cross-section to prevent relative rotation between the spigot 20 and the vessel 10, and a seal 28 is provided between shoulder 22 and recess 18. The spigot 20 has a threaded portion co-operable with the body of the master cylinder and has a passage 36 for fluid flow from the vessel 10 to the master cylinder.
