Abstract

1358526 Coffee packet PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 6 Feb 1973 [7 Feb 1972] 5790/73 Addition to 1273040 Heading A2B [Also in Division B8] A coffee packet for brewing coffee comprises a pouch of water permeable material (e.g. polyethylene, polypropylene, or a mixture thereof) containing flakes of coffee which has been roasted for 30 seconds to 3 minutes at 550-650‹F. The flakes are formed by passing the roasted beans through a roll mill with or without grinding. The roasting may be carried out in an air fluidised bed and the beans may be pre-heated to 150-250‹F. The flakes have a thickness of 0.0005-0.03 inches and a density of 0.4-0.6 gm/cc. The water permeable material has a pore size of 5-1000 microns and a thickness of 0.002-0.012 inches. The pouch may be made by heat sealing, stapling, or stitching, and may contain 5-10 gm. of coffee for each cup to be brewed. Brewing time is 0.5-3 minutes in water at 180-210‹F,
