Abstract
1358325 Hand held radio-active radiation detector and its housing FRIESEKE & HOEPFNER GmbH 22 Feb 1972 [22 April 1971] 8186/72 Heading G1A An apparatus for measuring radio-active radiation comprises two units, a hand held unit 1, Fig.1, containing a counter tube 3 with an associated meter 7 and loud-speaker 8, and a charger 16, Fig. 2, for charging the batteries of the unit 1 and for filling the counter tube with fresh gas, the unit 1 and the charger unit 16 being provided with grooves 14 and 15 and rails 18 and 19 so that they may engage one another for charging by way of the grooves and rails and by way of two coupling elements 12 and 22, for electrical connections,and by way of four coupling elements, 4, 24, 5 and 25, for the gas supplies. The units may be locked together by means of a catch 23 and detent aperture 13 which may be unlocked electro-magnetically with the aid of a switch 11 or manually by a mechanical unlocking element 35. In use the hand held unit is moved over the object being tested for radio-activity, however, the units are such that when they are in engagement with one another a hand may be placed under the unit 1 which will operate one of a series of lights 28, 29, 30 or an acoustic alarm, depending on the strength of radio-active contamination (if any) of the hand.
