Abstract
1358361 Fluid-pressure actuators INSTITUTE FOR INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH and STANDARDS and RG REES 15 Nov 1972 [15 Nov 1971] 52814/72 Heading F1D A fluid-pressure actuator comprises a collapsible tube 1, Figs.2, 3, which is nipped between a pair of rollers 43, 44 mounted in a carriage 41, 49 so that when fluid under pressure is introduced into the tube through a pipe 30 the carriage is caused to slide along in a casing 2. The roller 43 is adjustable and the carriage is guided by sliders 42. An end plug 13, Fig.4, is provided at each end of the actuator. Each one comprises an adjustable throttle valve 24 and a spring-loaded piston 17. When pressure fluid is admitted through the pipe 30 the piston 17 is moved to the right so that the inflow of fluid is unrestricted. Exhaust of fluid is throttled because the piston remains in the position shown. The rollers may be replaced by sliders of brass or similar soft metal suitably lubricated.
