Abstract

1358192 Blue flame burners BATTELLE MEMORIAL INSTITUTE 16 June 1971 [17 June 1970] 28294/71 Heading F4T A blue-flame burner has a tubular casing 1 defining with a sleeve 6 therein an annular duct a, the casing 1 being adapted at one end 3 for connection to an air source, e.g. a fan, so that air can be discharged from duct a in an annular jet, a liquid-fuel spray nozzle 5 located in sleeve 6 to spray fuel into said jet, and a dish-shaped plate 7 having a diameter greater than the sleeve 6 but less than the casing 1 and being positioned across the upstream end of sleeve 6 to define an annular passage 10, whereby, in use, a portion of the combustion products is drawn into the sleeve 6 and passes through the passage 10 to mix with the air passing through the duct a. Nozzle 5 is located within coaxial sleeves 8, 9 connected to plate 7 which has a central opening 7a providing an air supply to cool nozzle 5 and prevent blockage thereof by combustion products. One or more fins 6a may be provided to impart swirl to gases leaving duct a.
