Abstract
1358033 Finishing fabrics; steaming printed textile materials GIRMESWERKE AG 2 Feb 1973 [14 March 1972] 5331/73 Headings D1L and D1S Fancy-printed carpet tiles, i.e. tiles with a repeated printed pattern of the nature of jacquard designs, are produced by cutting or stamping out to the desired final dimensions carpet tiles provided with a back coating, printing the pile side of each tile with the desired pattern by a mixture of colouring material of a type rendering it unnecessary for the colouring material to be washed after a steaming operation, and steaming the tiles thus printed by subjecting them to the action of steam solely or mainly from the pile side, i.e. the tread side. Printing may be effected by screen printing using a paste containing a thickening agent, thiodiglycol, urea, a sulphonation product of a polyether, water, ammonium sulphate, benzine and a colouring agent of the acid or metal complex type. To obtain full or dark tones, the carpet pile may contain deep dyeing polyamide fibres with an increased content in amino groups. Specified materials for the back coating are pvc and copolymers thereof, polyurethane, atactic polypropylene, melted resin compounds from copolymers of ethylene and vinyl acetate, with the addition of "petro-wax" and other thermoplastic resins, butadiene, styrol rubber, natural rubber or prefabricated felts, e.g. from polyester or polypropylene fibres. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the cut tiles 1 are printed on the pile side 8 thereof and are placed pile side downwards on the upper run of an endless screen (belt 2. Steam 13 is applied from a pipe 12 and forced through the pile side 8 of the tiles. The lower run of the belt 2 is cleaned by a washing device 5 which is followed by a dryer 4. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, the cut and printed tiles 1 are placed on the outside of a perforated drum 32 to the interior of which suction is applied. Steam 35 is supplied by a pipe 34 located beneath the drum 32.
