Abstract

1358002 Rotary-piston engines AUDI NSU AUTO UNION AG and WANKEL GmbH 4 May 1972 [10 May 1971] 20818/72 Heading F1F In a Wankel-type I.C. engine oil for lubricating shaft bearings 5, 6 and a piston bearing 9 and for cooling the piston 10 is supplied from a reservoir 20 by pumps 19, 27, respectively, which may have dissimilar output pressures and delivery rates. A flow-regulating valve 38 is controlled by a heat sensor 41 in the path of oil returning to the reservoir, the flow of oil to the bearings being thus varied in accordance with the operating temperature. Alternatively, the valve 38 is controlled commensurably with the engine speed and/or load.
