Abstract

1357131 Pressure filter for liquids GAF CORP 18 May 1971 [19 May 1970] 15665/71 Heading B1D A liquid filter comprises a vessel 12 having a lower outlet 14 and enclosing one or more filter bags 34, a cover 16 incorporating an inlet but being capable of hinging away from the vessel without need to disconnect external piping to allow access to the vessel interior. In Fig. 1 cover 16 is hinged at 18 to supporting brackets 20 and incorporates a passage 56 leading to inlet opening 68 from the opening 64 in fixed plate 54 through which liquid is supplied. A sealing ring 66 seals between plate 54 and passage 56 when the cover is closed, and bolts 80 then hold the cover down. Abutments 78 limit the closure of the cover, to avoid excessive compression of double ring seal 50, 52, and also locate bag-supporting basket 34 in the vessel. The bead 38 of bag 36 abuts surface 42 of the basket in use, and the basket and bag may be lifted out together. A plurality of bags in one vessel and bags (and baskets) of re-entrant form are mentioned as alternatives. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the cover is hinged to the vessel and the inlet passage involves two abutting elbows relatively rotatable about the same axis as the hinge.
