Abstract

1356867 Composite spun yarn E BOB. KOWICZ and A J BOBKOWICZ 18 May 1972 [26 Aug 1971] 23296/72 Heading B5B Composite spun yarn is produced by projecting a polymer substrate downwardly from a die and nozzle arrangement in the form of a tubular spray or bubble into the nip between a pair of rotating rollers positioned face to face, and continuously supplying fibrous material at least on to one of the rollers. The polymer substrate and fibrous material in contact with each other are then transformed into spun yarn by passage through a high speed twisting spindle. A core thread may be supplied to the nip, forming the centre of the tubulus. In a modification, polymer resins are converted directly into spun yarn by extruding a fibrous spray of substantially crystalline fine staples at high velocity into the nip, the fibres being condensed into a continuous fibrous strand without the addition of any other fibres.
