Abstract

1356318 Fluid regulation A A WEBB and J P TULLIS 29 Nov 1971 [4 Dec 1970] 55402/71 Heading G3H A cavitation suppressing device, which is designed for use in an apparatus supplying liquid at a low-pressure from a high-pressure source, comprises a multi-part casing 52, 54, 56 and 58 having an inlet 64 and an outlet 106. Contained within a tapering part 54 of the casing are a plurality of layers of relatively small balls 70 of which layers at least the first four layers, as seen in the direction of flow, are welded together and to the surrounding casing part. Contained within the cylindrical part 56 of the casing are a plurality of layers of relatively large balls 84, the layers being retained by welding together a plurality of such balls into a pyramidal nest 88 of which the base is constituted by the layer of balls 86 which is nearest the outlet. The outlet layer 86 is partly contained within a hexagonal ring 98 and abuts a grid structure 94. The balls may be cast iron grinding balls. The device may include pressure tappings 110, 112 and 44 and a gas-relief tapping 48.
