Abstract
1355892 Electronic timepiece CITIZEN WATCH CO Ltd 25 Sept 1972 [25 Sept 1971] 44263/72 Headings G3R and G3T An electro-mechanical drive for a timepiece which includes a drive coil 20, comprises a signal source 102<SP>1</SP>, a multi-stage frequency divider 5, 10, 11, 12, a gating circuit 15, 16, 17 to control the output of the frequency divider and provide drive pulses of variable width, the width being increased by a discrete amount when the voltage induced in the drive coil 20, is sensed to have dropped below a predetermined value. The output from source 102<SP>1</SP> is fed through inverter 3 directly to one input of flip-flop 5 and through inverter 4 to the other input of 5. A number of similar flip-flops (not shown) are connected in cascade to reduce the frequency to 128 Hz at the input of flip-flop 10 to produce a final frequency of 16 Hz at the output of flip-flop 12. If the signal from coil 20 exceeds a predetermined level then amplitude detector 13 switches memory 14 to level 0 which allows the 128 Hz signal from the input of flip-flop 10 to be fed through switching circuit 30 and to one input of NAND gate 17, the other three inputs being 64 Hz, 32 Hz, 16 Hz from the appropriate dividers, and as a result the drive pulse produced has a width of 1/16 period and repetition rate of 16 Hz Fig. 7, (not shown). Conversely when the signal does not exceed the required level then memory 14 is switched to level 1 which causes the 64 Hz signal from the input of flip-flop 11 plus the 128 Hz signal from 10 to be fed through 30 to gate 17 and as a result the drive pulse produced is twice as wide i.e. # period. This restores normal amplitude to the drive circuit very quickly.
