A reciprocating rake type conveyer 3 actuated by a crank shaft 31 is mounted on a framework 26 pivotable on the back panel 10, by a ram 34, which when lowered to a horizontal position rakes silage grass through an opening 49 over a freely rotatable shaft 50 provided with blades 51 to a blower 4 for delivery through a shoot 37. The floor 7 is raisable by scissor linkage 11 actuated by a ram 14. When in position the panels 8 of the loader are lowered, Fig. 2, and a load to be loaded into a silo is deposited on the floor 7 in its lowered position. The conveyer 3 is then lowered to its horizontal position to feed the material through the opening 49 as the floor 7 is progressively raised to keep the material in contact with the conveyer. The raising of the floor 7 may be automatically controlled sensing devices maintaining the correct pressure on the conveyer 3. A conventional chopping and transfer apparatus may be driven by sprockets 45, 47.
