Abstract

1355015 Autothreading of rotating head units; brakes SONY CORP 19 April 1972 [23 April 1971] 18132/72 Heading G5R A rotating-head recording/playback apparatus having an automatic loading device for drawing magnetic tape 43 around guide drum 11 includes reel brakes 60, 67 which are controlled so that during loading/unloading the tape is unwound/wound from/on the same reel, to enable transducing to be interrupted and subsequently resumed at the same point. As shown, take-up reel brake 67 is mechanically disengaged during loading/unloading by a lever 74. Both the brake 67 and the supply reel brake 60 are disengaged by solenoids S 6 , S 5 during reel-to-reel tape transport. During loading a further brake 82 is engaged by a lever 83 engaging the tape loop to exert a frictional drag on unwinding of the reel 42. The brake 82 is also disengaged during reel-to-reel transport by a solenoid S7. The brakes act on brake drums 61, 68 on reel support members 48, 49. Automatic loading.-A cassette 25 in a holder 24 is initially lowered on to the reel support members 48, 49. A ring 26 mounted around the drum 11 is rotated clockwise and the tape is initially extracted by a pin 52 on a lever 50, which is permitted to move with the ring 26 under the action of a spring 53 to the position 52<SP>1</SP> shown. A pinch roller 30 on the ring 26 then enters the tape loop and further extends the loop around the head drum 11. The roller 30 engages a capstan 18 on actuation of a solenoid S 1 . The brake lever 74 includes a roller 76 engaging the ring 26, so that when the roller 76 moves out of a recess 79 in the ring 26 during loading/unloading, the take-up brake 67 is disengaged.
