1354036 Web treatment apparatus BRUCKNER APPARATEBAU GmbH 8 Feb 1972 [25 Feb 1971 8 June 1971] 5681/72 Heading D1L Apparatus for the wet treatment of a continuous textile web 1 comprises a vat 2 containing a treatment liquid, a rotatable compartmented drum 3 having vanes 3a disposed round its circumference to form the compartments, means (not shown) for rotating the drum intermittently by one compartment at a time, conveyor means 5 disposed upstream of the vat for feeding the web 1 into the compartments of the drum 3, conveyor means 6 disposed downstream of the vat for removing the treated web and a web sensor 8 arranged above the vat to control and synchronise via switch 9 and control means (not shown) the rotation of the drum and the speeds of conveyor means 5 and 6. The web sensor 8 is moved by the web between two operative positions; the first (illustrated) adopted when the treated web is still present in uppermost compartment of the drum and a second (Fig. 2, not shown) when the uppermost compartment is empty. In operation the rotation of the drum is controlled by a timing device so that under ideal conditions filling and emptying of the respective drum compartments is synchronised. When however the web 1 shrinks more or less than expected during treatment the situations arise where the timing device issues the signal for the drum to be rotated long after or before the uppermost compartment of the drum has been emptied. These states are sensed by the web senser 8 which then acts on the conveyor means 5 and 6 to produce increased or decreased filling or speeds of emptying of the compartments and/or the rotary drive of the drum to brake the drum until the sensor 8 operates switch 9. The partitions 3a of the drum 3 may be perforated and include broadened sections 3b at their outer edge to prevent damage of the web. Pivoting loading device 7 is provided to load the web 1 into the drum compartments in a piled condition.
