Abstract

1353939 Hydraulic control circuits SOC NATIONALE DES PETROLES D'AQUITAINE 15 July 1971 [16 July 1970] 33230/71 Heading F1P [Also in Divisions El and G3] Signals generated at the bottom of a drilling well and representing measurements taken thereat e.g. rock hardness, tool wear and deviation are transmitted to the well head by periodically closing a needle valve 16 Fig. 1 in the path of the downcoming drilling fluid; the valve 16 being mechanically connected by its stem 57 to the upper end of a double-acting hydraulic jack piston 56 Fig. 2 supplied with working fluid by a pump 25 driven by a drilling fluid operated turbine 4 and controlled by an electrically operated fluid distributing slide valve 50 having two windings 58 leading to a water tight enclosure 22 for converting into electrical signals the sensed data. The enclosure 22 is supplied with electrical power by an alternator 14 also driven by turbine 4. In operation the pump 25 draws fluid, e.g. oil, from a chamber 34 and delivers up a passage 32 provided with a relief valve 37, through a filter 40, a passage 44 to the distributor 50 and from thence down a return passage 46 and capacity chambers 47, 34 to the pump inlet.
