Abstract
1353555 Universal pivots W F STANLEY & CO Ltd 14 Nov 1972 [15 Nov 1971] 52981/71 Heading E2F In a measuring instrument mount, e.g. for supporting surveyor's levels 1, a universal adjustment arrangement is provided comprising a first bearing member 8 having a part-spherical bearing surface 10, a second bearing member 9 having a bearing surface in contact with the part-spherical bearing surface 10 of the first bearing member 8 and a dish spring 12 acting between the first and second bearing members for loading the surfaces together. The spring 12 acts on a further bearing surface located on the first bearing member behind the part-spherical bearing surface through a ball bearing arrangement 15. Adjustment of the load on the bearing surfaces is achieved by bolts 13, 17 screwed into bearing member 9. Adjustment of the level 1 is achieved through a thumb wheel 6 and the level 1 is mounted on a block 4 through a leaf spring 5.
