Abstract
1353481 Agitating liquids; controlling mixing by viscosity FRITZ HELLIGE & CO GmbH 21 April 1971 [22 April 1970] 10385/71 Heading BIC [Also in Division G1] A device for determining the coagulation characteristics of blood in vitro comprises a vessel 5 for the blood sample, coagulation detecting means part of which (probe 1 in the embodiment shown) is mounted for at least partial immersion in the blood sample, means to impart to the vessel a rotary oscillation about the at least partly immersed part of the detecting means and means to superimpose on to the rotary oscillation a precessional movement of the vessel around the at least partly immersed part of the detecting means to simullate the natural flow of blood in vivo. In the device shown (Fig. 5), vessel 5 containing the sample is mounted in opening 26 in crank lever 27, lever 27 having projection 28 which both slides along and pivots on straight edge 29a when lever 27 is moved by cam 33 eccentrically mounted on motor 32, producing a circular precession movement of vessel 5 around probe 1 which is immersed in the sample. The rotary oscillation is provided (Fig. 2) by motor 9 and a crank mechanism (Fig. 1, not shown). The oscillation of the probe suspension may be detected visually as when a light beam from a source 10 is reflected from mirror 4 carried by the suspension device and is deflected on to ground glass screen 14, or photographically, when mirror 11 is turned out of the path of the light beam and reflected light falls on photographic recording tape 19. It is stated that the means for simulating the natural flow of blood in vivo may be used in simple measuring devices for determination of clotting time and in other methods for investigation of coagulation by electrical, optical, chemical or mechanical means other than those described.
