Abstract

1353375 Floating structures INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS 23 June 1972 [29 June 1971] 29626/72 Heading B7M [Also in Division E1] A rigid platform 1, Fig. 1, is supported on water by a flexible airtight bag 5 which contains sufficient gas to maintain the platform above the crest of the waves, thus reducing the action thereof. The length of the bag is at least equal to one half the wavelength of the swell. Fig. 4 shows an arrangement in which bags 3a-3e are enclosed within a protective mesh structure 6. In Fig. 5 annular bags are used so that a drill 8 may pass through the central orifice. Fig. 6 shows a bag 3 connected to a platform 1 by damping means 11. In Fig. 7 (not shown), a separate bag is connected to each damping means.
