1353041 Foamed composite article FURUKAWA ELECTRIC CO Ltd and NISSEI KOGYO KK 26 Aug 1971 [26 Aug 1970 29 Dec 1970] 40080/71 Heading B5A Foamed composite articles are formed by placing (a) powdered plastics having particles of size less than 10 mesh and (b) granular plastics having particles of size greater than 10 mesh containing foaming agent in a mould, the granular particles having a size at least 3 times that of the powdered material, rotating and/or vibrating the mould to separate the particles and heating and foaming the composition. The powder may be high density polyethylene, polypropylene, ABS, nylon, polycarbonate, rigid PVC or phenolic resin, may be a thermoplastic or thermosetting resin which is not completely cured and may incorporate slightly foamable material. The granules may be crosslinkable polyethylene or other thermoplastic which may be mixed with natural or synthetic rubber. Metal plate, wire, pipe, wire screen, lath board, &c. may be placed in the mould where the non-foamed or slightly foamed surface layer is to be formed.
