Abstract
1352773 Expansion joints ACME HIGHWAY PRODUCTS CORP 3 May 1971 [16 Feb 1971] 12710/71 Heading E1B An expansion joint between two pavement or bridge sections 12, 14 comprises a plurality of resilient yieldable elongated sealing elements 74, as described in Specification No. 1351175 arranged side by side and separated I-section beams 76. The beams 76 are welded to C- shaped brackets 90; the arms 92 of which enclose the top flange 54 of an I-section supporting beam 52 so that the beams 76 are free to slide on the supporting beams 52. The lower flange 56 of the supporting 'beams 52 rest slidably on bearing blocks 48 welded to box section supporting members 32 which are fixed to brackets 24 welded to channel shaped girders 16, 18 defining the expansion groove by means of pins 42 engaging through holes 28. The upper side 40 of the supporting members is welded to channel beams 62 fixed to the upper side of channel girders 16, 18 by the interposition of a welded angle bar 68. The breaking of the welds between the angle bars 68 and the girders 16, 18 allows the whole joint to be raised from the expansion groove. Resilient anti-friction pads 94 may be positioned in the C-shaped brackets to reduce bouncing and vibration.
