Abstract
1352510 Power plant; steam engines COUNTY COMMERCIAL CARS Ltd 30 Sept 1971 [6 Oct 1970] 47547/70 Heading F1M and F1Q A power plant comprises a fluid heater 10 with an inlet and an outlet, at least one piston and cylinder combination formed in a cylinder block 12, 13, 14 and having an associated inlet valve for admitting fluid to the cylinder, a cylinder head provided with a valve port for the inlet valve, a pressure chamber 15, 16, 17 in the cylinder head through which chamber fluid passes to the cylinder, the fluid being a vapour or a gas or in a vapourous or gaseous state on entering the cylinder, means connecting the outlet of the fluid heater to the valve part in the cylinder head and further means inter-connecting the pressure chamber to the heater to direct heated fluid from the chamber back to the heater to provide a continuous circuit. The valves in the chambers 15, 16, 17 are operable to direct hot fluid from the heater into their associated cylinders. If the valves are closed fluid from the heater will bypass the valves. Under normal running conditions heated working fluid passes to the valves from the heater and the fluid flashes into steam on entering the cylinders. The hot fluid initially flows past the valves around a ring circuit comprising coil element 29, pipe 28 and pump 18. The pump 18 may come into action automatically when the burner 9 is switched on. The working fluid could be any other vapour than steam or gas. The exhaust could be fed to other cylinders for further expansion.
