Abstract

1352188 Dental prothesis AGA AB 19 April 1971 [25 March 1970] 24137/71 Heading A5R [Also in Division E2] An implantable device for attaching a dental prosthesis 21 at a preferred angle to the jaw bone comprises two parts, a first part 10 for implantation into the bone and a second part 20 connected to the first part by a ball joint 15, 16, 19, said second part being so shaped that the prosthesis 21 may be attached thereto there being manually adjustable means 23 for displacing the ball part into firm engagement with the socket part whereby the joint is locked and the parts 10, 20 are secured in a predetermined relationship relative to each other. The device may comprise two ball-and-socket joints (Figure 3, not shown) and each joint of the arrangement may be locked. As shown, the joint is locked by a screw 23 which, when turned, presses the ball 16 against the socket 19. In embodiments locking is effected (Figure 2, not shown) by a nut (29) inside the ball (28) and screw-threaded onto a pin (31) projecting from the prosthesis carrying second part (32). In further embodiments (Figures 4, 5, not shown), a tensionable wire (36) passes from the implantable first part (27) through the ball and the socket into the second prosthesis carrying part (20), tensioning the wire causing the two parts to lock together. The implantable part 10 of the device includes passages 11, 12 for tissue ingrowth and the prosthesis is attached to the second part 20 using cement and/or by screws (34).
