Abstract

1351944 Electrostatic spraying NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 11 Oct 1971 [15 July 1970] 2355/70 Divided out of 1351944 Heading B2F Apparatus for electrostatically depositing particles comprises a duct 10, 16, 12 forming a closed circuit, partly (at 12) of an electrically non-conductive material, electrical discharge means (e.g. needle 20) removing electric charge from particles entrained in a flow of gas in the duct, and outlet means 30 diverting particles from the duct and directing them adjacent to a capacitor means 18. An object 32 to be coated is earthed and positioned so that powder from outlet 30 flows between capacitor 18 and object 32, the particles thus being attracted to the earthed object. In alternative apparatus, the duct is made of "electrically partially conductive material" with internal ribs, and alternative capacity means may comprise a toroid surrounding a tube of insulating material. The apparatus may be used to dust crops with pesticide powders or electrostatic powder coating of products.
