Abstract

1351674 Measuring tension: indicating flatness of rolled strip SECIM 24 Aug 1971 [27 Aug 1970] 39738/71 Headings G1M and G1W The tension of a constant speed strip 2 from a rolling mill (not shown) is measured by passing it over a roller 1 supported by wheels 11, 12 rotating on shafts 13, 14 and supported by arms 8, 9 pivotable on a shaft 10 against hydraulic jacks 5, 6. The roller 1 may be made in one piece and have a certain elasticity to show deformations of a radial nature or be divided transversely into sections each on the same shaft 22 but each provided with its own set of pivoted arms and jacks. As the tension in the strip varies due to variation in flatness across the strip so the roller 1 will move up or down in its slideway 21 to vary the pressures in the jacks and indicators 17 which emit control signals to the mill.
