Abstract

1351554 Reinforced extrusion CONTINENTAL GUMMI-WERKE AG 22 Aug 1972 [23 Aug 1971] 38986/72 Heading B5A [Also in Division B8] An escalator handrail is reinforced by two plies crossing at an angle, each ply comprising textile or metal threads, wires, cables or strands, the members of each ply being separate from each other and the members of the other ply. In the Figure, a handrail produced by extrusion from rubber or a rubber-like thermoplastics material has a flat central part la and two curved side parts 1b, which in use embrace the banister. Textile yarns or steel wire cables 4 embedded without mutual contact in the elastomeric material absorb tensile forces, and steel wire cables 5 extending at right angles to cables 4 but without contact therewith maintain transverse rigidity.
