Abstract
1350750 Respiratory masks DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 19 April 1971 [2 Dec 1969] 58801/69 Heading AST A face mask for a respirator comprises a mask body 1 supporting a sealing member 2 for fitting against the face of a wearer to provide an enclosed volume around at least the nose and mouth of the wearer, and means 6 for receiving a supply of breathable gases into said volume at a pressure greater than the pressure prevailing outside the enclosed volume, the sealing member 2 being formed of a porous material so that breathable gases and exhaled gases pass outwardly through it, preventing ingress of contaminated atmosphere. The face mask may include gas porous diffusers 10 positioned over the gas inlets 3 and the mask may be held in position on the wearer, by the tubes 6 supplying the breathable gases to the mask. The sealing member may be formed from a polyurethane foam and the mask body from metal or exemplified plastics materials.
