Abstract

1350574 Electric furnaces A G DOCX 19 April 1971 [26 March 1970 2 May 1970] 14789/70 and 21219/70 Heading H5H [Also in Division F4] An electric furnace has a muffle 6 of ceramic fibre on which is mounted a heating element 7 so as to be at least partially embedded therein. A table 13 is raised and lowered by means of a gear mechanism 14, 15 operated by handle 18 to locate the workpiece, e.g. a false tooth, within the heating zone 8. The mounting of the heating element may be achieved by placing the wire in the grooves of a brass wire gauze former and then dipping the assembly in a slurry of ceramic fibres. Application of a reduced pressure to the inside of the former leaves the wire partially embedded in the support. Alternatively the ceramic fibres are in a suspension in an hydraulic setting agent and are sprayed on to the former or they may be incorporated in a cement which is put on to the former. Ceramic fibre paper 9 surrounds the muffle which is located within the cylindrical jacket 10. The furnace base 23 contains a temperature indicator 25, a controller 26 for the temperature and a timer. A pressure gauge 24 monitors the pressure in chamber 12 and zone 8. A pipe 22 passing into chamber 12 enables the furnace to be evacuated. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 1,233,469 and 1,217,056.
