Abstract
1350274 Corrosion-inhibited herbicidal composition DOW CHEMICAL CO 27 July 1971 [28 July 1970] 35270/71 Heading A5E [Also in Division C7] A corrosion-inhibited herbicidal composition comprises a halophenoxy alkanoic acid or a soluble salt thereof and boric acid or a soluble salt thereof and a corrosive chelating agent. The organic acid may be where R=H or alkyl, each R' and R" is H, halogen or alkyl, n=0-16, at least one of R and R" being H and at least one of R' and R" being halogen, the total number of C atoms in -CHR(C n H 2n )COOH being 2 to 18; this may be in the form of a herbicidal aqueous solution, whose corrosivity is reduced by the addition of boric acid (which term includes ortho-, meta-, tetra- and penta-boric acids); said corrosive chelating agent may be citric or tartaric acid, EDTA, or nitrilotriacetic acid. Inhibition is more effective at higher pH values; the acids are thus preferably present in the form of an alkali metal, ammonium, or amine salt; the herbicide is then less corrosive to a metal container, e.g. of steel.
