Abstract

1349935 Thermo-sensitive heads FIREMASTER EXTINGUISHER Ltd 15 Sept 1971 [16 Sept 1970] 44167/70 Heading A5A A sensing head for fire extinguishing apparatus, e.g. a sprinkler system or an automatically-actuated pressurised extinguisher, is characterised by a plurality of temperaturesensitive elements in series, each being adapted to deform independently in response to a predetermined temperature rise, and at least one being a fluid-filled bulb. In Fig. 1 two liquid-filled glass bulbs 19 are used, and in Fig. 2 a soldered collar and sleeve, 56 and 57, in conjunction with bulb 58. The sensing head of Fig. 1 is mounted on pressurised container 10 and comprises plug 12 which fits in mouth 11 and has flange 13 to seat against O-ring seal 14. Threaded to neck 11 is member 15 from which extend four parallel rods 16 mounting at their other end ring 17 with aperture 18. Liquid-filled bulbs 19 are positioned end-to-end between plug 12 and ring 17 and maintain duct 11 closed until at least one ruptures. In Fig. 2 sensing head 50 has cage-like body 51 threaded to neck 52 of a pressurised extinguishant source. Duct 53 in 52 is closed by plug 54 having O-ring seal 55, and collar 56 is threaded in the upper part of body 51 co-axially with plug 54. Sleeve 57 is retained in collar 56 by solder and forms the first thermosensitive element. A second is formed by frangible bulb 58 positioned between plug 54 and sleeve 57.
