Abstract
1349794 Yarn failure; stop motion BARMAG BARMER MASCHINENFABRIK AG 19 April 1971 [16 May 1970] 25863/71 Headings DID and D1F A device for switching off a textile machine or a part thereof in the event of yarn breakage or in the event of exhaustion of the supply bobbin comprises a yarn monitor which is fixed to a holder 16 which is itself adapted to be fixedly attached to a machine frame, the yarn monitor acting as a ballooning eye 2 and being urged to tilt about a first axis, e.g. provided by pivot pin 3, against the effect of yarn tension, and further being adapted to rotate about a second axis e.g. provided by pin 12, perpendicular to the first axis, the device also comprising a built-in electrical switch 4 which is closed when the monitor is tilted through a predetermined angle, and is closed when the monitor is rotated through a predetermined angle. The monitor comprises a probe 1 having a pigtail eye 2 at one end, the other end being pivoted about pin 3 fixed in a housing 18 of the monitor. The housing 18 is rotatable about a non-rotatable pin 12 fixed in the holder 16. The switch 4 carries a pin 8 engaging a curved cam surface 9 carried by a flange 11 of the stationary pin 12. The switch 4 also carries a cam 5 cooperating with a switching lever 6 of a microswitch 7. A spring 17 mounted between the housing 18 and the flange 11 of pin 12 causes frictional forces to prevent accidental rotation of housing 18. In the event of yarn failure, the probe 1 tilts about pin 3 either by gravity, spring means, or magnetic means, and causes cam 5 to push lever 6 to close the contact of the microswitch 7 to switch off the machine or part thereof. The probe can be locked in the position by a rotatable can 20. The probe 1 can also be tilted out of the operative position by rotation of the housing 18 about pin 12. In this event, pin 8 engages the curved surface 9 and causes the probe to tilt about pin 3 and thus close the contact of the microswitch 7 to stop the machine or part thereof. The housing can be locked in this position to prevent accidental starting of the machine e.g. when doffing on a twisting machine.
