Abstract
1349360 Punched card reader SEALECTRO Ltd and N E EVANS 30 March 1972 [8 April 1971] 9090/71 Heading G4H A punched card or tape reader comprises at least one row of probes 12, at least some of the probes of a row being formed together out of a single spring (e.g. a wire). The wire is attached to support 7 by rods or studs 8, and the card or tape 1 having holes 2 rests on support 3. To read the card, supports 7 and 3 are moved together and, if there is a hole, the side flanges 13a, 13 of the corresponding flange bridge electrical contacts 6 (e.g. of printed circuits). In another embodiment the contacts are normally bridged and, where there is a hole, contact is broken. The angle between the flange and the probe is preferably less than a right angle so that a wiping contact occurs. The wire may have a different shape (Fig. 2, not shown).
