Abstract
1348724 Detecting speech signals; substation equipment COMPUR-WERK GmbH 10 Sept 1971 [7 Jan 1971 8 June 1971] 42240/71 Headings H4K and H4R An arrangement for discriminating between speech and signal frequencies operates by responding to the time dependent variation in frequency in the speech signals to produce an output which is used to operate a switching device in a telephone answering machine. The arrangement comprises an amplitude limiter 4 which clips the input signals S, B into the form shown as SL, BL where the frequency modulated nature of the speech signal SL can be seen. Discriminator 5 effectively converts a frequency modulation into an amplitude modulation giving a signal SL<SP>1</SP> after separator 6. The signal frequencies being of constant frequency are rejected almost entirely. The signal from separator 6 is used to operate a threshold device 8 and switch 9. To avoid spurious operations due to disturbances a shunting path comprising an integrator 10 may be employed. Preferably the threshold switching stage employs a comparator having two stages, both of which have to conduct simultaneously to operate the switch.
