Abstract

1348416 Furniture frameworks and joints; cabinet; shelving; drawers; E N GIGANTE 19 April 1971 [31 March 1970] 25804/71 Headings A4B and A4H [Also in Division E1] A furniture framework comprises opposed pairs of upright legs 2, joined by horizontal cross rails 1 and longitudinal rails 3, each leg being of U-section with the open end facing towards the other leg of the pair, each pair being joined by a cross rail 1 whose bevelled ends are inserted into the legs, the cross rails 1 being resiliently locked to the legs 2 by teeth 1a on the rails engaging in recesses 2a in the legs 2, and by projections 2b on the legs 2 engaging in grooves 1b in the rails 1. The rails 3 are secured to the legs 2 by T-shaped clips 5 and U-shaped brackets 6, Fig.4 (not shown), clip 5 having keying 5d and a portion 5a that are received in notches 4 and a fluting 3f provided by ribs of the rail 3, and portions 5a and 5c also being clamped by grooves 2f and ribs 2c of the legs 2, see Fig.3, (not shown). Bracket (6) for clamping the clip 5 has flanges (6a) that engage in grooves 3m, 3s, in rail 3. Shelves (9), Fig.5, (not shown) or sliding drawers (27), Fig.13, (not shown) may be mounted on legs 2 by angled members (7 or 26) having upper flanges (7a, b, c) engaged in grooves 2f in the legs and lower flanges (7g, 7f) engaged in the shelf underface or drawer side. Rear panels (12), Fig.6, (not shown) may be mounted on legs 2 by E-shaped members (10) having flanges (10f, 10h) engaged in grooves 2c of legs 2 and fastened by C-shaped clamps (11). Two rear vertical panels may be joined edge-to-edge by an H-shaped member (13), Fig.7, (not shown) which also clamps a shelf (9). A shelf (9), Fig. 8, (not shown) may be mounted on rail 3 by an angled member (14) having a flange (14a) engaged in a groove 3j of rail 3. The end of the framework may be spaced from a wall (16), Fig.9, (not shown) by a rubber strip (17) and curved spring (18) mounted on a J-shaped member (15) having a projection (15b) engaged in groove 2e of leg 2. The edge of a panel may have a dovetail groove (21a), Fig.10, (not shown) for receiving an inverted V-shaped projection (20) of a moulding (19). Sliding doors including lower friction plugs (28), Figs.14, 15 (not shown) and grip recesses (29), Figs.16, 17 (not shown) are mounted on rails 3. The doors are retained opened and closed by a lock (31), Fig.18, (not shown) mounted in rail 3 and whose bolt (32) pivotally mounts bars (33) engaging in plates (34). Plates (34) have wedges (35) with projections (35a) that can block or unblock holes in grooves 3c, 3f to prevent or allow penetration of spring-loaded pins (40), Fig.20, (not shown) on the edges of the doors.
