Abstract

1348276 Injection mould hot runner L W PUTKOWSKI 19 April 1971 [9 March 1970] 23405/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division H5] A hot runner assembly for an injection mould has in the outlet of its bore a cylindrical insert member which co-operates with the gate. The insert member is slidable in the bore to allow axial expansion and contraction movement of the outlet end of the runner. In the first embodiment, Fig. 3, the flow control insert member 48<SP>1</SP> is connected by pins 84 to an actuating piston 72, 78. The pins 84 pass through holes in the runner 30 and escape of plastics through these holes indicates wear of the parts. In a second embodiment, Fig. 5, the flow control insert member 4811 is biased to a gate closing position by springs 96. The pressure of the plastics in chamber 50a builds up to overcome the springs 96 and move the tip 108 of the insert member away from the gate 26<SP>11</SP>. In another embodiment, Fig. 13, the gate 202 is in the flow control insert member 194 which is loaded by a spring 206. The gate 202 is off centre to allow regulation of flow by rotation of the member 194. A torpedo may be located in the bore of the insert member 194. The inlet and/or outlet end of the runner has a seal where it enters a bore and the seal may, as shown in Fig. 10, comprise a sleeve 132 of flexible stainless steel located, e.g. by silver soldering on the reduced diameter end of the runner, the diameter of the sleeve being enlarged at 140. The runner may be L-shaped or comprise two tubular members formed at rightangles. The heaters may be semicircular and arranged in pairs one of which may not be connected to supply or may be a dummy to act as an insulator. A heater may comprise four arcuate parts.
