Abstract
1348014 Feeding webs VERSATEC Inc 23 Nov 1971 [27 Nov 1970] 54386/71 Heading B8R [Also in Divisions B6 and G2] In an electrostatic printing machine the printing paper 28 is advanced from a supply roll through a recording station 36, under a pressure member 64 which co-operates with a fountain tray by means of which liquid toner is applied to the paper, around a driven feed roller 71 which co-operates with a pinch roller 72 having a relieved central portion (Fig. 1, not shown) so that the paper 28 is driven by engagement with roller 71 along its marginal edges, and up an inclined platen (81), Fig. 1 (not shown) where the paper 28 is maintained in a flattened state by means of an air stream 84 directed along the upper surface of the paper. The supply roll is mounted on a non-rotatable X-shaped support which bears on the inside surface of the roll-core 27 and thereby brakes the roll to tension the paper. The recording station 36 comprises an electrostatic recording head 37 constituted by a pair of fibre-glass plates (37a, 37b) between which is embedded an array of evenly spaced conductors (39) Fig. 1A (not shown) and a back-up assembly 38 including an elongated insulator mounting bar 41 to which are secured flat control sections (42) connected to control means (43) responsive to printing inputs on a wire (44), Fig. 6 (not shown). The developing station includes the fountain tray (53) which is provided with diffusion screens (55, 60, 65) to control the flow of fluid toner, a catch basin tray (56) which encircles the tray (53), and wiper blades (63) for removing excess toner from the paper (Figs. 7 to 9, not shown).
