Abstract

1348061 Cement L TRIEF 4 May 1971 [4 May 1970] 12946/71 Heading C1H [Also in Division F4] A cement is obtained by heating a mixture of coal residues and CaCO 3 at a temperature below that at which it softens, raising the temperature to at least 1500‹ C. to form a molten slag which is rapidly water cooled and granulated which is then ground. The coal residues can be fly ash or mining detritus. Additions to the cement are crude ash, and hardeners, e.g. NaOH, Na 2 SO 4 , CaSO 4 , Na 2 CO 3 . When more than 4% Fe 2 O 3 occurs in the coal residues a third heating to 1800‹ C. is made whereby metal separates from the slag and is removed thus purifying the slag which transforms it into a "white" binder.
