Abstract

1347732 Covering cores by S-Z winding SIEMENS AG 25 Oct 1971 [23 Oct 1970] 49527/71 Heading B8G A core 3 is covered with a length of elongate material 2 in S-Z fashion by supplying the material 2 to be wound on a storage device 6 freely rotatable about the core 3, a guide 9 driven in alternating directions about the core axis removing the material from the device 6 and applying it to the core. The winding is secured to the core at least at the reversals, for example by an externally adhesive-coated strip 12. In one direction of rotation the guide 9 pulls the storage device 6 round so that the material 2 is wound thereon at a higher rate than that at which it is removed and laid on the core. During rotation in the reverse direction, any slack that might appear between device 6 and guide 9 is taken up by an accumulator (not shown) upstream of device 6. Instead of the illustrated conical surface, over which the material may slip, the device 6 may have a cylindrical surface, the material being laid thereon and drawn therefrom by axially traversed pulleys.
