Abstract

1347595 Erecting cartons AKERLUND & RAUSING AB 1 June 1972 [1 June 1971] 25744/72 Heading B5D [Also in Division B8] A machine for erecting a tray-like container by means of a plunger moving the tray blank through a die has the die mouth formed of a pair of parallel rollers 15 carrying flanges 20 that fold in corner gusset panels or extensions on one pair of opposite sides. Two further rollers 16 at a lower level engage the tray sides that are not engaged by the rollers 15. To accommodate blanks of different sizes the rollers 15, 16 may be replaced by rollers of different sizes or may be adjustable by means of slots such as 23 which provide adjustment of rollers 16 and guide rails 11 that locate the blank. The blank is held on the die 13 by suction applied by a pipe 24. If the blank is coated with heat sealing material, which may be polyethylene, it is heated immediately before entry into the die and may be heated by electrical heat radiation or by hot air. The carton can be blown from the plunger by compressed air supplied through the pipe 24 or the carton can be stripped from the die by engagement with the lower edge of the die as the plunger is withdrawn. Suction means (29, Fig. 8) conveys the carton to a filling and sealing station.
