Abstract
1347482 Pressure moulding concrete NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 26 May 1971 [19 June 1970] 29926/70 Heading B5A Concrete articles, e.g. panels, are moulded by introducing a wet cement-based mix into a mould and applying pressure, e.g. by means of a press to expel excess water through a sheet or sheets of non-woven porous plastics material arranged either on top of the mix, or immediately below, or preferably both. Preferably the mix contains pulverized fuel ash a typical mix being specified. The preferred plastics sheet is of a Ziegler-type polyethylene having an average pore size of about 120 microns or less, but other materials stated to be suitable are PVC, nylon, cellulose acetate or ester, fluorocarbon polymers, e.g. PTFE, or silicone rubbers. The mould may have the collapsible wall edge members forming the subject-matter of Specifications 1,236,927 and 1,301,272. The pressed article is removed by a vacuum lift pad before curing. The invention is stated to be especially suited to decorative or profiled articles.
