Abstract
1346924 Crimping and bulking yarn BAYER AG 19 April 1971 [15 April 1970] 26898/71 Headings D1F and D1W A process for the production of bulk yarn comprises continuously stretching a spun filament, knitting up the stretched filament to form a tubular structure, shrinking and fixing the sitch pattern of said tubular structure under predetermined conditions of tension and heat, unravelling this structure, crimping and ring twisting the filaments and making them into a cop. The tubular structure may be spread open before shrinking and fixing. The process may be carried out in the apparatus shown in Fig. 1 wherein yarn from bobbin A is stretched in arrangement 1, knitted in machine 2, and introduced into a fixing zone 6. Spreading cones (Fig. 2, not shown) may be inserted into the tubular structure before the fixing zone to limit and control shrinkage. After the fixing arrangement, the tubular structure is unravelled, heat treated at means 10, crimped at 11 and wound on to cop 9. The tension of the tubular structure can be controlled in the zone 6 by speed adjustable squeeze rollers 3 and 8. This structure can also be fixed under a defined initial tension in the course direction by means of a spreading cone.
