Abstract

1346840 Preventing slipping of vehicle wheels BERTIN & CIE 10 Nov 1971 [10 Nov 1970] 52169/71 Heading B7D In apparatus for improving adhesion between the wheels of a vehicle and a road covered by water, dust, gravel or other loose substance likely to impair braking a road-cleaning gas is forcibly ejected on to the road surface from nozzles 13 positioned ahead of the wheels 3 when the brakes of the vehicle are applied to more than a predetermined extent. As shown, compressed air from a reservoir 17 charged by a compressor 18 is supplied to the nozzles 13 through a valve 19 which is opened by a solenoid 25 whenever a switch 31 on the dashboard is closed and a pressure-responsive switch closes due to the pressure in the brake master cylinder 9, reaches a threshold value of 15 to 30% of the maximum braking power. The cleaning gas may alternatively be engine exhaust gas, superheated steam, gases produced by burning pyrotechnic products in a special enclosure, or carbon dioxide stored liquefied under pressure or dissolved in water.
